CrossFit Open 2026
Ah yes, the CrossFit Open. Back again… and, like every year, I dread it just a little. Mostly because it always seems to involve burpees. And, of course, this year was no exception.

The first workout was a 12-minute grind of box step-overs, wall balls, and wall ball step-overs. For the Hyrox crowd, it probably looked like a dream workout. For me? Not the worst thing in the world, but definitely not a favourite either.
The box step-overs were easily my strongest movement, which worked out well considering my current shoulder situation. I’ve been dealing with a rotator cuff injury, so anything involving extension or rotation feels… questionable. Which, realistically, rules out about 90% of CrossFit.
I finished with 160 reps. It felt like absolute hell while I was in it, but, true to CrossFit fashion, I was completely fine about five minutes later.
Workout 26.2, on the other hand, felt like it was made for me: overhead lunges (love), alternating dumbbell snatches (love), pull-ups (love). I went in feeling confident with most of the movements, but there were two big question marks, chest-to-bars (which I had never actually attempted in my four years of CrossFit) and ring muscle-ups (let’s be realistic… not happening).

But somehow, in the middle of it all, I surprised myself, I got chest-to-bars. A huge win. One of those moments that reminds you why you keep showing up.
The frustrating part? My shoulder again. All overhead lunges had to be done with my left arm. Thankfully it’s my dominant side, but still, not ideal.
I finished right on the 15-minute time cap with 108 reps.
The third and final workout… well, there’s not much of a story there. I didn’t do it.
It came down to a pretty simple choice: push through a workout filled with burpees and thrusters and risk being sidelined for weeks, or sit it out and stay pain-free. As much as I hated missing it, the decision was obvious.
After taking 2024 and 2025 off, coming back to the Open felt like a solid reset. A reminder of where I’m at, and where I want to go.
Now it’s simple: train hard, stay consistent, get stronger, faster, fitter… and come back in 2027 ready to absolutely send it.
